Senate Concurrent Resolution 588

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOG FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON.

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Bulldog football team won the Southeastern Conference Western Division in 1998; and

WHEREAS, in the march to the division title, the Bulldogs defeated top ten Arkansas 22-21 in one of the season's most exciting games; and

WHEREAS, by winning the SEC West title, the Bulldogs played eventual national champion Tennessee in the SEC championship game; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Bulldogs won eight games during the 1998 season; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Bulldogs were televised a school-record 11 times in 13 games; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Bulldogs played in the 1999 Cotton Bowl in Dallas; and

WHEREAS, the Mississippi State Bulldogs finished the season ranked in the nation's top 25; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the Mississippi State University Bulldog football team for its outstanding 1998 season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Jackie Sherrill and the MSU football team.
